From My Grandmother’s Garden to a Grandmasbasket.shop Business

Updated: Dec 27, 2024

A Journey of Sustainable Agriculture.

Growing up, I spent countless hours in my grandmother’s garden, watching her cultivate the earth with love and care. She taught me that farming wasn’t just about growing food; it was about nourishing the community, sharing the fruits of your labor, and respecting the land. My grandmother believed in the power of nature to sustain us, and she always emphasized the importance of feeding those around you. Her teachings left a lasting impact on me and sparked my passion for sustainable agriculture. As a child, I never realized that those humble lessons would eventually shape the foundation of my own business.

Years later, when I set out to create my community garden business, I drew deeply from my grandmother’s wisdom. However, I also knew I needed to expand my knowledge of sustainable farming practices and entrepreneurship. That’s where my education at Highline College and my experience with the REII Academy for Entrepreneurship became pivotal. Through Highline’s sustainable agriculture program and hands-on workshops, I learned the principles of organic farming, crop rotation, and soil health, all of which became key pillars in my business. REII Academy provided me with the tools to turn these practices into a viable business, teaching me about the entrepreneurial mindset and how to create a business model that’s not only profitable but also beneficial to the community.
